ADAM VÍT / A GREAT
DEAL OF BEAKS

The title refers to a confrontation with a pile of ‘something’ glittering. A pile with neither a particular order nor an edge. When you know there is something underneath the surface, but you are unsure of what it is, until you bury your arm inside and pull it out to see.
Usually, it is not precious at all. I feel like the last works tend to explore the possibilities beneath the surface of the painting, going from the inside out, back and forward, spiraling around. Through a reappraisal of the outside and inside, we might better distinguish subjects that usually stay in between; we might better understand that going outside very often means to dig deep inside.. the guts are always the roads.
What might also be reflected here is my interest in the Czech post-war structural and lyrical abstract tradition, that we know as informal. When I see the famous works of, for example, Jiří Valenta or Jan Koblasa, I always think about the moment from the first Jurassic Park movie where Jeff Goldblum has found himself opposite to a huge pile of triceratops’ shit, which was one of my favorite scenes when I was a kid. (it should not be taken as an insult, it is what it is, a pile of shit is not necessarily a bad thing).
But even though the memories are not particularly transmissible, I think that working through the act of remembering can bring the right shift of an environment we share anyway. And what is always interesting for me is how a certain established approach can change completely just within the context, like when you strip something down completely and look to see if the joke is still funny or a complete disaster..
